The music video for Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ hip-hop/country crossover ‘Old Town Road’ has officially surpassed one billion views on YouTube.  This marks the first project for either artist to hit that milestone.

Off the EP 7, ‘Old Town Road’ was released back in 2018 and in the following year, Billy Ray teamed up with Lil Nas X for the remix, which spent 19 weeks at No.1 on the Billboard charts, the only record to spend that many weeks in the top spot.

So what exactly inspired Lil Nas X’s debut single? He says, “But during the month of me making [it], I gave it a different meaning, so that the ‘Old Town Road’ would be the symbol for success.  The horse would be not having too much, but having what you have in order to get where you’re trying to go.  The ‘can’t nobody tell me nothing’ part is referring to my parents: wanting me to go back to school, not thinking it’s likely for [me] to make it.”

‘Old Town Road’ managed to win over ten awards including two MTV VMAs, four Billboard Music Awards, and two GRAMMYs (best pop duo/group performance / best music video).

The music video may have reached the one billion view mark, but the ‘Old Town Road (Office Movie)’ isn’t that far behind, currently sitting at 650 million views on the platform.
