Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes are proof that you can remain friends even after a breakup.

In a recent chat with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, Camila Cabello broke her silence on what lead to her and Shawn Mendes’ breakup, “My priorities have fluctuated and my focus has changed throughout my life.  Those years that we were dating … even while I was writing this album and even still now, I guess my focus is really on, ‘How can I be a well-rounded person?'” Camila begins.

As Camila and Shawn grew older, she says priorities began to change, “And I feel like that was that way for both of us.  Because we both started so young too, it’s like we’re really learning how to be healthy adults. And that sometimes means not having your number one focus be your career.”

Camila continues, “I love Shawn, and I feel like there is literally nothing but love for him. And this song is mostly just about like, ‘Okay, how do I make a song that shows the cycles of love, and life, and gives people…’ Whatever it is that’s going on in your life… hopefully, this can make you be like, ‘It is that way now, but things are always taking crazy turns.'”

Camila and Shawn called in quits in November of 2021 after two years together.  Both had released a joint statement on Instagram, “Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever.  We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward.”

And despite Camila addressing her and Shawn’s breakup in ‘Bam Bam,’ she says ‘there are no hard feelings between her and her ex.’

Don’t forget about Camila’s upcoming album, Familia, which is set for release on April 8.  Chatting with Billboard News in November about her new album, Camila says, “Familia means community, I guess the opposite of you on your own.  It’s more you with other people land sharing in that joy and success, whatever that means. Interdependence realizing how important everybody is in your life. A lot of it is inspired by my relationships: My relationships to my family, my relationship to my friends, my relationship to my partner … it’s all about connections with other people, hence, Familia.”
