Throughout the earlier months of quarantine, Shawn spent time in Miami with Camila, as well as her parents and sister, “I don’t remember the last time I smelled laundry. It’s a nice smell,” Shawn tells Zane. “It’s a really calming smell. It feels like growing up.”

It was during that time that Shawn found inspiration for his upcoming album, Wonder.  For the creative process, Shawn explains, “It was the first time I had the chance to even think about someone more than me.  It was the first time I had enough space in my heart and my head that wasn’t so consumed about how many people were caring about what I was doing or how many…likes, streams, whatever you want to call it.  I had all these ideas about what I wanted to sound like and what I wanted to be like.  I think for a long time I was spending so much of my time getting to the end of the process, which was like how do I finish the album? How do I have the big song?”

Shawn continues, “From a young age, I was like really shown what it feels like to have that gold and success and glory and it’s addictive and you miss out on the most beautiful part which is the process.  It was the first time I was quiet and I was able to be, like, ‘What is happening in this world and how do I feel about it and what can I do and where does this go from here?’ And that was the best gift I think I’ve ever, ever been given in my whole life.”

Shawn adds, “I still am trying to know me.  Sometimes I think like, ‘am I gonna look back at the music and how am I gonna feel about it in 20 years?’ And then I’m thinking like, ‘oh this is great, it’s like an audio scrapbook that I have. It’s gonna really show the things that I thought about and the things that were on my mind and kind of how fearless I was at that time and how scared I was.’”
