MacKenzie was born and raised on a cattle and bison ranch near Medicine Hat, Alberta.  At the age of four, she began studying violin, voice and piano and throughout her younger years, she was part of a family band alongside her brother, Kalan Porter, who was a Canadian Idol winner back in 2004.

From 2007 to 2018, MacKenzie has appeared in numerous TV movies and television shows, which include Dinosapien (2007), Endgame (2011), A Killer Among Us (2012) and Travelers (2016-18).

At the age of 16, MacKenzie moved to Vancouver to pursue an acting career and in 2014, relocated to Nashville, “I was really in denial about how hard it was.  I just figured I would come here and find a record deal right away, and it was just going to be this easy thing.  Obviously I learned the hard way.  Nashville in particular, is a town that you have to work your way up and prove yourself.”

Two years prior (2012), MacKenzie released her debut single, ‘I Wish I’d Known,’ and in 2014, released her self-titled debut album.

In 2014, MacKenzie began dating Jake Etheridge (singer, songwriter, actor) and in 2019, they were engaged.

Jake even made an appearance in MacKenzie’s music video for ‘About You’ (2018).

MacKenzie says she plans to hit the studio this June with her producer to work on a new album, “I’m hoping that we’re going to have the album out this fall.  It’s weird to not have an official plan, but it’s pretty impossible to make plans right now.  We just don’t know what’s happening, but that’s the goal.”
