While appearing on Ashley Graham’s Pretty Big Deal podcast, Demi Lovato is holding nothing back.  Demi, who delivered an emotional performance a few weeks back at the GRAMMY awards, is opening up about her previous eating disorders, and how she replaced them with ‘intense workouts and dieting.’

Demi said, “I’m tired of running myself into the ground with workouts and extreme dieting.  I thought the past few years was recovery from an eating disorder when it actually was juts completely falling into it.”

She continued, “I think when you have certain people around you that are telling you certain things that you should look a certain way, it makes it harder.  I was in that situation, and I was just running myself into the ground.  I honestly think that’s kind of what led to everything happening over the past year, was just me thinking I found recovery when I didn’t, and then living this kind of lie and trying to tell the world I was happy with myself when I really wasn’t.”

I am so proud to call @ddlovato a friend and I’m in awe of her strength and openness on today’s episode of @prettybigdealpod. Her faith, wisdom, and new found awareness has gotten her to a place where she’s comfortable enough to set boundaries or take a pause to heal; which is something we can all learn from. I’m so excited for this next chapter of her career, it’s going to be the best yet because she finally gets to be true to herself ?? Thank you Demi for coming on and showing your fans that while pain and recovery aren’t simple, healing and strength are still possible. Audio is live now wherever you listen to podcasts and the YouTube version drops today at 3pm!

Demi explained:

“I have a bunch of people that I work with in the recovery aspect of my life, one of them is a dietician, one of them is a therapist.  Now when I look in the mirror and I start to have a negative thought, I don’t stop and say, ‘No, you’re beautiful, you’re gorgeous, I love you, you’re perfect the way you are.’ Because I don’t believe that.  So you express gratitude in the health and then you just express reality in accepting yourself rather than trying to convince yourself of something that you don’t believe.  I would love to be in a place where I can say I’m super confident in my body, but the reality is, I’m not.  I haven’t worn a pair of jeans in forever because I don’t like jeans, they don’t make me feel great right now, and I don’t have to f*****g jeans if I don’t want to.  Now, I finally feel like I have freedom from it because I literally don’t know my weight, and it’s the most free that I’ve ever felt in my whole life.”

Following the interview, Demi posted a photo with Ashley, and in the caption she writes, “I had such am amazing time filming! Thank you Ashly for allowing me to really open up about my faith, boundaries, my body acceptance journey, and what my future holds.  We had such an honest and real conversation.”
