This is such a HUGE accomplishment for Eminem – he’s celebrating 11 years sober!

Eminem recently posted photos on his Instagram, holding his sobriety chip.  He captioned the one photo, “11 years – still not afraid.”

While talking to Men’s Journal back in 2015, Eminem explained how he substituted his drug addiction with exercise, “When I got out of rehab, I needed to lose weight, but I also needed to figure out a way to function sober.  Unless I was blitzed out of my mind, I had trouble sleeping.  So I started running.  It gave me a natural endorphin high, but it also helped me sleep, so it was perfect.  It’s easy to understand how people replace addiction with exercise.  One addiction for another, but one that’s good for them.”

It was revealed Eminem suffered from a ‘near-fatal overdose’ back in 2007 and in 2010, told The New York Times, “I used to get pills wherever I could.  I was just taking anything that anybody was giving to me.”

Revival, which is Eminem’s most current studio album, he opened up about his near-death experience.  Castle, which is the album’s penultimate record, Eminem reads three letters, all written at different parts of his life and all three are dedicated to his daughter, Hailie, “You’ll be coming out of Mommy’s stomach soon, I better do something quick if I’ma be able to support you.  Just thinking ahead, I’ma make it if it kills me, let’s see how far I can take it with this music.  And if things should worsen, don’t take this letter I wrote as a goodbye note, ’cause your dad’s at the end of his rope.”
