I was a fan of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears when they were together and to this day, I still wish that they were a couple (sorry, Jessica!).  Unfortunately, I had to come to terms that it’ll never happen … again.

I’m sure you remember ‘Cry Me A River’? The song Justin wrote shortly after his breakup with Britney (which is why everyone assumed the song was about her AND the fact that the girl in the video had a strong resemblance to Britney herself).

In Justin’s new book called Hindsight: & All the Things I Can’t See in Front of Me, he finally opened up about the 2002 breakup anthem, “I’ve been scorned.  I’ve been pissed off.  I wrote ‘Cry Me A River’ in two hours.  I didn’t plan on writing it.”  Justin continues, “The feelings I had were so strong that I had to write it, and I translated my feelings into a form where people could listen and, hopefully, relate to it.  People heard me and they understood it because we’ve all been there.”  Justin also says, “One thing I’ve learned is that I have to let the feelings or ideas that inspire me become what they want to be.”

So WHAT happened between Justin and Britney? They dated from 1999 to 2002 and met during their years on The Mickey Mouse Club.  Following their breakup, rumours began to spread about Britney breaking Justin’s heart and cheated on him.  During Justin’s GQ interview from 2006, he said it was ‘love at first sight’ when it came to Britney, “I was in love with her from the start.  I was infatuated with her from the moment I saw her.”  Justin explains, “When we initially parted ways I felt like she had a couple of opportunities to just sort of stick up for me, and she didn’t, which is fine.  But at that time, you know, I fought back.”

In the Lifetime movie Britney Ever After, it was shown that their breakup was because of Justin’s ‘jealously’ when it came to Britney and her then choreographer and of course, Britney’s rise to fame.  But was that the real reason? Back when Britney and Justin called it quits, Britney apparently told The Daily Mail that they wanted different things in life.  Britney said at the time, “The worst thing is everyone wants to talk to me about it.  Everywhere I go people are asking how I am.”  And Justin was no help either because he dodged the question when asked by Barbara Walters (3min mark).

A year later in 2003, Britney was interviewed by Diane Sawyer, where she broke down in tears when Justin’s named was mentioned.  We also learn that Britney’s ‘Everytime’ is POSSIBLY about JT.

Whatever has happened in the past, that’s exactly what it is – in the past!  And it looks like there’s no bad blood between Britney and Justin.  Just recently, Britney posted a workout video with a JT song playing in the background.
