In between her “Hopeless Fountain Kingdom Tour”, Halsey took the time to release a brand new, emotional track called ‘Without Me,’ which is her first solo single since releasing her album last year.

It’s no secret – the song is definitely about her now-again boyfriend, G-Eazy.  Halsey and G were dating for a year before calling it quits in July and since then have reconciled and by the looks of social media, are back on. ‘Without Me’ is about Halsey and G’s time spent apart and she is calling this song her most personal yet.

During Halsey’s recent interview on Beats 1 Radio with Zane Lowe, she explains, “Questioning your purpose and your effort in a relationship can be confusing and draining but it’s important to self-reflect and know your worth and value.”

Halsey also says that ‘Without Me’ is the first record she’s ever written under real name which is Ashley.  “I think that’s what I’m kind of getting at is that it’s like it’s not protected by some character or some subplot.  It’s like this is really me talking about my life.  It kind of gave me like an existential crisis as an artist a little bit, because I’ve prided myself on being an artist who’s authentic and writes about her life and all that stuff.  And then when I made this and I felt just how bad it hurt.”

Halsey fans were quick to ask the important questions via Twitter like ‘how did she have the time to record’ and ‘how personal is the song.’  Halsey admitted that she cried the entire time while recording the record and in her words ‘feels proud and empowered.’  Check out some of her tweets below.

By the way – it was said that Halsey’s new record ‘samples Justin Timberlake’s ‘Cry Me A River” which is somewhat false.  Halsey tweets, “For those of you asking it’s not a true sample.  I just used a lyric from the CRAR in the bridge because I felt like the song had CMAR vibes! It’s not actually a direct sample.”  And the lyrics Halsey is referring to is, “Does it ever get lonely / Thinking you could live without me?”
