Sam Panopoulus, known for the creation of the Hawaiian Pizza, has passed away at the age of 83, leaving behind his legacy of pineapple as a topping on pizza.

In an interview with the BBC this past year, Sam recalled how this all came to be; “We [Sam and his brothers] just put it on, just for the fun of it, see how it was going to taste. We were young in the business and we were doing a lot of experiments.”

Obviously the news of Sam’s passing sparked the internet to continue the ongoing debate of #PineappleonPizza

Fun fact- Pineapple Pizza was invented in Chatham ONT, so of course the Prime Minister of Canada was questioned on his opinion of Hawaiian Pizza.

Long live Sam’s legacy of Hawaiian Pizza!
