Turns out that mice are no different than elephants. Yup, you read that right, researchers have found that all mammals have one thing in common…how long it takes us to poop.

Lead researcher Patricia Yang told Metro, that they watched “elephants, pandas, warthogs and dogs do their business, concluding that it takes every mammal 12 seconds to poop.”

The study was published in the Journal Soft Matter where the researches broke it down for us…saying that “poo is covered in a layer of mucus that shortens the expulsion process, animals including humans have a mucus layer inside the colon that allows it to pass through the system like a ‘sled sliding through a chute.”

But how can elephants and mice take the same amount of time to poop? According to the researchers “the larger the animal, the longer their rectum and the thicker the layer of mucus, meaning it travels further through the body at a faster speed.”

Basically, there is no reason that one’s legs should fall asleep while using the toilet.
