Today The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the next iPhone will use USB-C for charging instead of the Lightning connection:

“Apple would introduce other updates including a USB-C port for the power cord and other peripheral devices instead of the company’s original Lightning connector. The models would also do away with a physical home button. Those updates would give the iPhone features already available on other smartphones.” 

 

The lightning connection is pictured above and on the current iPhone charger. Apple wants to do away with that for a new connection called USB-C, that looks something like this:

People are really, really mad. I’m just really, really confused. Help. Just don’t make me buy a whole bunch of new cables again.
