August 21, 2017 will mark ‘Dirty Dancing’s 30th anniversary!

One of the most iconic movies will be turning 30 and here are 9 facts about the film that your probably didn’t know.

.) Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey weren’t the only couple that was considered to play the lead roles: Interesting enough, Johnny Castle was originally supposed to be played by Val Kilmer (he turned it down) and then Sarah Jessica Parker or Sharon Stone was to play the role of Baby (both tried out for the part).

.) Some of the scenes weren’t scripted; they were made up on the spot: In an interview with the late Patrick Swayze, he said, “When I’m teaching Jennifer and I’m getting frustrated, trying to get her to be serious, and she’s laughing or giggling the moment I run my hand down her arm — that really is me getting frustrated, like, ‘Would you just stop?!'”

.) Here’s something you probably didn’t know – the movie was based on the life of the screenwriter: Elenor Bergstein is her name and she wrote the movie.

.) The soundtrack went platinum 11 times in the U.S. and has sold 32 million copies worldwide.

.) Although Jennifer Grey played the role of a 17-year old, she was actually 27 years-old.

.) Patrick Swayze turned down the opportunity for a sequel.

.) That famous line at the end of movie, ‘Nobody puts Baby in the corner’ … well, Patrick disliked it so much, he tried his best to remove it from the movie BUT it remained.

.) In 1987, Jennifer missed the film’s premier because 12 days prio, she was in a car accident with her then-boyfriend, Matthew Broderick.

.) And finally, after 30 years … ABC will be doing a TV remake! It stars Abigail Breslin and Colt Prattes and it’ll premier May 24 at 8PM.
