One Direction member Louis Tomlinson had a difficult end to 2016 after his mother, Johannah Deakin passed away at the age of 42 on December 7th after battling cancer; she was diagnosed with Leukemia.

He spoke to the Hits 1 in Hollywood show on SiriusXM and said, “At first…it’s not something that I feel 100% comfortable talking too much about, but just quickly, when I first found out about the news I kind of did want to throw the towel in. But it was my mum who said to me that I’ve just got to keep going. She told me very sternly that she wanted me to.”

He added, “So I’m not doing it for her, but…we’re doing it for each other.”

Just three days after her death, Louis performed on the X Factor UK finale which he says was difficult for him to do, “It was tough, but I felt like it was nice for me to almost have a little send-off for her.”

Louis released his first solo single, ‘Just Hold On’ featuring Steve Aoki, take a listen to that below.

Louis also discussed his former One Direction band mate Zayn Malik.
