At 15 years old, UK singer Dua Lipa moved back to her hometown, London England, on her own after being with her parents in Kosovo. Now at first you might think, ‘WOW! That is so young.’ But Dua Lipa knew it was the right move for her if she wanted to take off as a singer, “That was just when I really decided to take my fate into my own hands and was like, ‘Okay, I’m actually going to try and do this.”

She spent most of her time in the studio at that time and also worked as a hostess at a restaurant before finding a manager she found via social media.

She looks back on those times fondly as now, at age 21, she’s getting to do exactly what she’s always wanted to do, “[I remember] being like, ‘I really want to get up on stage and perform these songs. Now I’m currently living that and actually doing what I always wanted to do.”

Lipa cites Nelly Furtado and Pink as early inspirations for her love of pop music, “I’ve always been such a fan of pop music. The first album I was given when I was quite young was the Whoa, Nelly! album by Nelly Furtado. After, I also got the Missundaztood album by Pink. That’s when I was like, ‘Oh my god, I want to be just like them!’ I love the way Pink has especially grown in her career. I admire her a lot. I feel like whatever they do or put out, I’m a fan of. I’ll always listen to it. I think because I loved them when I was so young, that has left such an imprint that really inspired me in what I do right now.”

While Lipa has felt empowered and inspired by those artists, fans are now finding themselves inspired by her music.

Dua Lipa just released the music video for her latest single, ‘Blow Your Mind (Mwah)’. It will appear on her upcoming self-titled debut album, due out February 10th, 2017.

Keep an eye out on this one, as Dua Lipa is definitely, ‘One to Watch’!
