American Idol Ratings Were Way Down

American Idol was the top rated TV show on Wednesday night but it saw a 17% drop in total viewers over the Season 10 debut a year ago. Idol averaged 21.6 million viewers over its two-hour premiere, in contrast to Season 10′s 26.1 million viewers. This seems to be a trend for Idol. Last season was down 28% over the prior year’s debut.

Even American Idol Is Tired Of Ryan Seacrest

It’s possible that Ryan Seacrest’s stint as host of “American Idol” could end after this season. His contract … with Idol ends this year, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, the producers of the show may not be willing to fork over a ton of cash to keep him. Under his current deal, Seacrest reportedly has been earning $15 million per year. A source tells The Hollywood Reporter that producers Fremantle Media and CKx will want him to accept a pay cut during negotiations for a new contract. The source says, “There’s no way Fremantle and CKx will continue to pay Ryan that kind of money when he can be replaced for $2 million to $3 million.” The insider says the companies believe that Idol can remain successful if Seacrest leaves, much as it has since Simon Cowell departed the show in 2010.

Queen teamed up with Lambert for … the 2009 American Idol finale and again at the MTV Europe Awards last month, where the trio performed a stirring medley rendition of Queen hits The Show Must Go On, We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions, and drummer Taylor admits he’s a big fan of the gay star. He tells Billboard.com, “He has grown into a really great performer with an astonishing voice with a range that’s great. We would like to work with him again. There’s nothing signed just yet but we’re talking about live dates. It could be very exciting.”

The New York Post reported that Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson now want more money after hearing that J Lo is close to inking a $20 million deal.

Personally I don’t think J Lo’s worth $20M a season after just one under her belt. You’ve got to build loyalty and prove you’re worth it. One season isn’t enough to determine your worth IMO.

Jennifer Lopez is still unsure about whether she will return to American Idol. The singer has a few roles on her plate — including working on her own Latin TV talent show. She told Britain’s Radio 1, that she is not sure that another season of American Idol makes sense.

She said:

“I don’t know, I don’t know. I haven’t been forced to make a decision (yet) and I’m glad about that because, honestly, I’m very on the fence about it. I had an amazing time doing it and I loved it, but I have a lot of other things happening. It’s going to come down to making a choice of what I want to do for the next year. We’re not really at the breaking point of like, ‘You have to make a decision right now!’ – so I’m not. I’m enjoying the time of just waiting.”

Jennifer also says that she would love to taken on a new film role. She said:

“Yes, I’m thinking about doing one actually in September. I’m heavily into it, deciding. I miss acting – I did TV this year, I did the Idol thing, I’ve been working on my music for two years and so I haven’t done a movie in a minute and then you realize two years have gone by since a movie. I really, really miss it. I wanna get back to it really soon.”
