You know when someone says “All the feels?”

Sam Smith literally gave us that tonight!

From start to finish, the 26 year old Englishman took us on a rollercoaster of emotions and captivated us. He even started off by joking about how many of his songs are serious vs emotional – yet he’s still able to enjoy himself, and we couldn’t agree more.

Shortly into his set, Sam played one of his earlier hits, “I’m Not The Only One.” He then paused and briefly talked about growing up, which led into his first single “Lay Me Down” off his debut album In The Lonely Hour.

After that, the pace picked up as shades of pink and purple lit up the stage and the entire ACC was on their feet dancing to “Omen.”

For a brief moment midway through his set, Sam went off stage. During this time, we were all treated to beautiful melody of sounds performed by a pianist and cellist. When he retuned to the stage he introduced us to his entire band.

During “Scars”, which, according to Sam is his most personal song, Sam was joined by his good friend and bass player, Brendan Grieve. Sam explained how the pair share a special bond created by the feeling of being away from their families while on tour. It was a great moment that commanded everyone’s attention.

Later on, Sam proclaimed that “Love is love” and that he is a proud gay man. This was met with a boisterous reception by the crowd, which then led into “HIM” off his new album The Thrill Of It All. “HIM” talks about a boy coming out to his father, and although this isn’t Sam Smith’s personal story, it’s meant to raise awareness of LGBTQ issues in our society. Throughout the song we were treated to a rainbow light display, which beautifully celebrated the LGBTQ community.

The night was capped off with old and new songs like “Stay With Me”, “Too Good At Goodbyes”, and “Palace.”

Tonight, Sam Smith took us on a magical journey and treated us to a show that we won’t soon forget.
