Updated on Feb. 20, 9:15 a.m. to reflect Fergie’s statement

We all know that the Internet (especially Twitter) can be an absolutely ruthless place, and Fergie learned that the hard way at the 2018 NBA All Star game.

The former Black Eyed Peas member sung the national anthem of the United States last night in Los Angeles at the Staples Center for the NBA All Star Game and I’ll let you be the judge of how she did, but judging by a sampling of the tweets below, you can get an idea of how a lot of people felt…

On Sunday, Fergie addressed the criticism of her national anthem performance at the 2018 NBA All Star Game in a statement to TMZ“I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA,” the singer said. “I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”

Fergie’s version of the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ isn’t the only version to ever come under fire.

You may remember some of the following…

The absolute king of ‘Star Spangled Banner’ renditions in my opinion though goes out to Marvin Gaye and his performance of the national anthem during the 1983 NBA All Star Game. Enjoy…
