Flashback 14 years ago to 2004, when Janet Jackson was the headliner for the Super Bowl Halftime Show. She invited Justin Timberlake on stage to perform his single, ‘Rock Ya Body’. The song ends with the lyric, “Imma have you naked by the end of this song” and the rest as we know is history.

Both received a lot of backlash from the incident, referred to as ‘Nipplegate’, but there are many people who believer that Janet received an unfair amount of backlash, compared to JT.

Well, earlier this year it was announced that Justin Timberlake would be this year’s Super Bowl Halftime headliner and rightfully so, it brought many people back to 2004.

In a new interview with Zane Lowe of Beats 1 promoting his forthcoming Man of the Woods album, Justin reflected on the 2004 controversy, revealing that when he was asked to perform at this year’s showcase, the Janet incident came up.

He said, “Naturally, that’s something that we talked about…To be honest, it wasn’t too much of a conversation, just one of those things where you go, we’re not going to do that again.”

He added, “I stumbled through it, to be quite honest…I had my wires crossed, and it’s just something that you have to look back on and go, like, ‘OK, well, you know, you can’t change what’s happened but you can move forward and learn from it.'”

He revealed that he and Janet have “absolutely” made peace since then, “And I don’t know that a lot of people know that…I don’t think it’s my job to do that because you value the relationships that you do have with people.”

I for one would LOVE to see Justin invite Janet to the stage February 4th, I think it would be a nice touch.

Justin just released a brand new song off of Man of the Woods, called ‘Supplies’. Check that out below!
