Instagram is finally opening up and explaining how leaked, naked photos of Justin Bieber ended up on Selena Gomez’s social media page.

On Aug. 28, Selena’s Instagram account was hacked and a certain ‘someone’ decided to post a few nude pics of Justin (Selena’s ex). The account was eventually suspended, the photo’s were removed and the account re-opened.

Just recently, reps from Instagram are now admitting that an API bug was to blame.  The API bug also lead hackers to reveal email addresses and phone numbers of some serious, high-status users but the good thing, the bug didn’t reveal passwords.

In a statement given to TIME, Instagram says, “We recently discovered that one or more individuals obtained unlawful access to a number of high-profile Instagram users’ contact information – specifically email address and phone number – by exploiting a bug in an Instagram API.  No account passwords were exposed. We fixed the bug swiftly and are running a thorough investigation.  At this point we believe this effort was targeted at high-profile users so, out of an abundance of caution, we are notifying our verified account holders of this issue.”

The pictures that were posted were from Justin’s Bora Bora vacation back in 2015.  When the pictures were first published online, Justin said that he felt ‘super violated’ and went on to say, “My first thing was like…how can they do this?  Like, I feel super violated. Like, I feel like I can’t step outside and feel like I can go outside naked. Like, you should feel comfortable in your own space… especially that far away.”

Afterwards, a cease and desist order saw the removal of any pictures that were posted on social media.
