“Do not let the acts of others make you feel like you are not welcome..This is your home.”

A high school right here in the GTA is making waves for the reaching out to a the Muslim Community with statements of hope, understanding, and most importantly.. love.

In the wake of the tragic fatal shootings of 6 inside of a Quebec city Mosque on Sunday night, Humberside students sent over a dozen letters to Islamic Information & Dawah Centre on Bloor West yesterday.

Beautiful messages poured in after a World Religions teacher from the Etobicoke school reached out to the Centre to ask if it would be okay to drop off some words from the students.

Jax spoke to The Assistant Imam at the Mosque Ilyas Ally about the act of support and solidarity from the students.

He said he was originally in shock upon reading the letters:

I was amazed that the class decided to do this gesture – it came totally out of the blue. I was moved by how eloquent and hopeful the messages were. To read advice and reassurances from young people is really heartwarming.
Nowadays, getting a single handwritten letters is a big deal. To have 19 letters dropped on my desk all at once was overwhelming in an amazing way.
It’s a reminder to the community that despite the ugly event of Sunday night in Quebec, there is so much positivity and love that outshines the ugliness.

I am also a firm believer that those that feel the need to hate, and act on such hate, are ultimately weak”
