Woman’s Hair Tie Gives Her Infection; Requires Emergency Surgery!

If you ever wear your hair tie around your wrist, the story of Audrey Hopp might give you pause.

Audree Kopp from Louisville, Kentucky is spreading the word about the absolutely disgusting infection she contracted after wearing a hair tie on her wrist.

Audree first noticed a lump on her wrist and went to the doctor (who then gave her antibiotics); but those didn’t help.

The lump kept getting larger and more painful, so much so that Audree went to the ER where she was rushed into emergency surgery.

Audree learned that her arm had been infected with three different types of bacteria and that she narrowly avoided blood poisoning. Audree admitted to WLKY that, “I didn’t believe it at first, I thought that it was a spider bite or something else, not from wearing a hair tie.”

One of Audree’s doctors, Dr. Amit Gupta said this about the dangers of wearing hair ties on your wrist, “Be careful, you can’t put all these hair ties around wrists, they can cause problems with the skin, with infections”.
