AirBnB-Trashed-Home

“This wasn’t a party…This was a drug filled orgy,” the police said.

Imagine renting your home out to a seemingly trusty few guests, and you come home to over $50,000 worth in damage. That’s what happened to a Calgary couple.

Disgusting doesn’t even begin to explain it.

A young family in Calgary has had their home completely destroyed, after renting their home out to Air BnB guests to make a bit of extra income. After giving a short walk through to the guests (4 people who claimed they were in town for a wedding) Star King and her husband handed their keys over. Hours after leaving, a party bus reportedly pulled up to the residence, and up to “one hundred party goers” went into the house. After 2 days of being unaware of the situation, neighbours called Star and her husband Mark who had been staying at a relatives. Neighbours informed the couple that police had been to the house repeatedly due to noise complaints in a predominately quiet residential area. The couple went immediately back to their home.

Mark and Star arrived with police in tow, as with AirBnB rules the house is under the residential tenant act and is the guest’s property legally until check out time. The police wouldn’t immediately let them in the house, but after pleading the guests were evacuated and the couple let inside. In the below video.. You get the gist. The house is TOTALLED. Along with ruined furniture and appliances there is extensive damage done to flooring, broken doors and walls…. And the carpet and kitchen floor is “full of unidentified liquids”. The police told the pair that this “wasn’t a party.. It was a drug filled orgy”.

The damage is being assessed at $40,000-$50,000 but Star and Mark say that the house will need a complete restoration. Air BnB has insurance up to 1 million, and are being said to be extremely cooperative and helpful in fixing this as damage is extremely rare.

Here is the walk-through…
